The United States

About 2 weeks ago, there was a story that ran on the AP wire regarding immigration & a situation that occurred at Montibello High School in Pico Rivera , California. Long story short, some protesting students decided that they needed to get their point about immigration across by flying the Mexican flag above the US flag. { they decided to fly the US flag upside down as well, which is what I believe to be a distress signal} . I found the students hearts to be in the right place, but not their brains. The one thing that we all have to keep in mind is that we are Americans. The flag is our national symbol. Protesting is a natural thing in our country.. Second nature to some, first nature to others... But this wasn't the smartest thing to do. And the reaction , actually, the lack thereof , by their local school board was pathetic. The following link is to their local CBS affiliate , along with an accounting of a recent school board meeting. Draw your own conclusions, but be sure to watch the video. FLAG STORY LINK .
The reason I went off on this tonight isn't because I'm patriotic American who flys a flag during daylight hours. Its because I'm a proud American. Even if I don't agree with a lot of the political decisions our government is making, there still is nowhere else I would rather live.... Its also because my mom sent me a Teddy Roosevelt quote in an e-mail that got me going. I'll end w/ a copy of mom's email quotation. { she'll love that I mentioned her here.... lmfao} Love ya mom :}
Hawk :}
p.s.--- I know i'm not being P.C. , but I agree w/ just about everything President Roosevelt has to say here. Oh well, guess that statement is gonna piss some people off.. LMFAO :}
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on assimilation were incorporated in the Federal Textbook on Citizenship Training, published in 1931.
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
> >
> > "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes
here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he
shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an
outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or
birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in
every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no
divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something
else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the
American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the
English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."
